Upcoming Homestand for the Drifters

by Steve Mims

Only nine home games remain for the Springfield Drifters at Hamlin Field and this week’s homestand provides fans with some great incentives to visit the beautiful ballpark.

Springfield hosts Walla Walla for a three-game set Tuesday through Thursday with promotions slated for each night.

Campus Life Night kicks off the week on Taco Tuesday presented by North Fork Public House. Woof and Wine Wednesday features $5 wines as dogs are invited to join their owners in the stands. The Drifters will also host Opening Ceremonies for the 9U and 11U Cal Ripken regional baseball tournaments on Wednesday.

Thirsty Thursday features $3 craft beers through the fifth inning.

The Drifters are 12-21 in the South Division, just ahead of Walla Walla at 13-23. There are 18 games remaining on the schedule, including nine at home, before the West Coast League slate wraps up on Aug. 6.

Springfield is back home July 25-27 against Portland and Aug. 4-6 against Yakima Valley.

Rex DeAngelis leads Springfield with a .320 batting average while Cole Kleckner is batting .300 with 14 runs scored to tie Cooper Mullens for tops in that category. Ben Newton has a team-high 10 RBIs.

Infielder Ryan Cooney is batting .271 for the Drifters while Charlie Updegrave is hitting .257.

Avery Goldensoph has a 1.88 ERA out of the bullpen for Springfield. Marist High grad John Over leads the way with three victories while Hunter Dryden is 2-3 with a 3.78 ERA and team-high 33 strikeouts.
