Following an exciting and entertaining opening weekend of West Coast League baseball, Springfield will continue its homestand when the Bend Elks arrive at Hamlin Sports Complex for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday.
The first 300 fans through the gates on Tuesday will receive a free Drifters cap.
Thursday night is Food For Lane County Night where fans who donate six non-perishable food items will receive a free General Admission ticket, and three food items will earn a half-price General Admission ticket. Food for Lane County will also be accepting monetary donations in lieu of food. Every dollar donated to FFLC helps provide two meals to our neighbors in need across Lane County.
The Northwest Star Nighthawks close out a run of eight straight home games to begin the season when they visit the Drifters on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, it is Drifters Dog Days partnered with Greenhill Humane Society, where fans can purchase a Drifters Dog Pass for $2 and receive a free, Limited Edition Drifters Dog Bandana, along with $2 Pup Cups sold at concessions with the proceeds going to Greenhill. Greenhill Humane Society will bring a few adoptable dogs and there will be water bowls and doggie bags provided for the pets in attendance.
Springfield is off to a 1-2 start after closing out a three-game series against Walla Walla with a 12-6 win on Sunday.
Noah Cox, a Willamette High School grad who plays at Umpqua Community College, went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs in the win over the Sweets. Chase Nye also had two hits and scored a run for the Drifters while Demetriz Lewis Jr. and Logan Honma each scored twice.
Springfield opened the season with a couple close losses by scores of 7-5 and 7-4 against Walla Walla.
Honma is off to a hot start with four hits in eight at-bats while scoring four runs. Center fielder Aiden Gebhard, a Redmond native playing at Northern Colorado, is 5-for-11 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Lewis is batting .333 while Sheldon graduate Nolan Miller, who plays at the University of Portland, and Churchill grad Dylan Carson, who plays at Bushnell, are both hitting .273 along with Cesar Chavez.
The Drifters have a team batting average of .304 while averaging seven runs per game.
Kaden Harris, a native of Milwaukie who plays at Lower Columbia College, has pitched in all three games for Springfield while allowing just one run in five innings. Michael Klein and Andrew Miller have each tossed two scoreless frames for the Drifters.
Bend arrives in town at 2-1, one game ahead of Springfield in the South Division. Portland is the lone team out of nine in the division to get off to a 3-0 start.
