Drifters Unbeaten Through First Series

by Steve Mims

The Springfield Drifters will put their unbeaten home record on the line when they host Wenatchee Tuesday through Thursday at beautiful Hamlin Field.

With temperatures expected in the mid-70s, it’s going to be perfect weather for families to enjoy great baseball so go ahead and purchase tickets here.

The Drifters opened the season with a three-game home sweep of Port Angeles while outscoring the Lefties by a combined total of 30-7.

Fans who arrive at the field to cheer on the Drifters as they look to stay unbeaten at home against the AppleSox will be rewarded with a variety of fun promotions throughout the week.

On Tuesday, the Drifters will honor our hometown heroes from Thurston’s state championship baseball team. The Colts won their final 27 games, including a 2-1 win over West Albany in the 5A title game, to finish 28-3 with an undefeated run through league play.

Coach Dennis Minium and his team will be introduced before the game and invited to throw out the first pitch, so come help us honor our state champs!

In addition, the inaugural Taco Tuesday presented by North Fork restaurant will include a special menu item as fans can enjoy delicious tacos at Hamlin.

That is followed by Wine Wednesday featuring $5 wine pours through the first five innings. It’s a similar theme on Thirsty Thursday when beers are offered for $3 through the first five innings.

Thursday is also Irish Fishing Club Night as anyone who wears IFC gear will earn free admission to the game. The IFC folks will have an information booth set up at Hamlin throughout the series.

So grab your tickets to cheer on the Drifters, who are off to a great start to their second season in the West Coast League, a college wood bat league featuring some of the top collegiate players from around the country. Michigan, Fresno State, Washington State and UC Santa Barbara are just a few of the schools that have sent their players to Springfield for the summer.
